Happy New Year from Stubsdale Dog Care Center!

Updated: Jan 2, 2024

Make your dog's life better in 2024!

Register for group dog training classes. We begin on Sunday January 7th!

Having a basic grasp of dog’s psychology tremendously helps your success. Our primary goals are to teach our dog to walk on the leash without pulling, respond to various commands without unnecessary repetition and to prevent or correct other unwanted behaviours. Our program uniquely blends 6 Lessons that guide you and your dog from basic to advanced Obedience Training.

1. The Agreement & Place

2. Watch Me, Luring Shaping & Targeting

3. Recall & Casual Come

4. The Focused-Control, Relaxed-Control & Casual Walks

5. The Stay & Place Routines

6. The Sit-Stand-Down Routine

We practice using modern techniques such as luring, targeting and shaping to positively reinforce wanted behaviours. The most common commands are Sit, Stay, Come & Down.  In our program we will also use the commands Let’s Go, Relax, Back. Yes and No serve as markers indicating to our dog when they are doing well. Dog owners find themselves having to manage a series of behavioural issues including unwanted aggression and other challenging behaviours like nipping, biting, and chewing, excess barking, and object guarding. Our specialised training routine has been organised into 6 short reward based exercises designed to make your training life easy and effective!  We realise that many dog owners don't have extra time available in their busy schedules to provide all of the energy burning activities that meet their dogs needs. While we recommend doing as much as possible, this is a common challenge, and it is our opinion that domesticated dogs living in urban environments are generally underserved when compared to dogs living in farms or spacious yards. To meet your dog’s needs and to better blend our world with theirs, we suggest that you use every interaction as a training moment for you and your dog. Take for instance, all dog owners have time set aside for feeding, bowel movements and play. Since these are the most convenient, these times should be used to practise your routine in order to achieve your training goals. This approach can  be used at any stage of training from beginner to advanced. We often say to our students, every moment between you and your dog is an exercise that if approached with understanding can bring you closer together.
